The spin-off featuring the franchises most famous couple is coming to Paramount+
When Anthony DiNozzo left the NCIS to take care of his daughter after her mother, Ziva David, died, NCIS fans thought it was the last time they would see these two characters together. That was in 2016, when Michael Weatherly, who portrayed Tony, left the show in the Season 13 finale; Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva, had departed three years earlier. Fans finally got their "Tiva" happy ending when it was revealed that she was still alive and, in Season 17, she went to go live with Tony and her daughter, Tali, in Paris. If that weren't enough, fans will now get an entire series devoted to the duo, called NCIS: Tony & Ziva.
The series was first announced in February 2024, and fans have been eager to find out more information about the NCIS spinoff. Here, we discuss everything we know about the show featuring fan-favorite characters, including when it will premiere, who will be in the cast, and where you can watch it.
More on NCIS:
Paramount+ has not yet announced a release date for NCIS: Tony & Ziva other than to say it will be out in 2025. However, because filming began in the summer of 2024, we think it will be released in the first half of the year. There will be 10 episodes in the season. It will be the second NCIS spin-off to premiere recently after NCIS: Origins, which premiered on Oct. 14 on CBS. Origins is a prequel following Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon in NCIS and Austin Stowell in Origins) as a new special agent.
After Ziva was reunited with Tony, following her brief NCIS appearance in Season 17, they have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. NCIS: Tony & Ziva will pick up during this timeframe. Tony runs a security company, but when it is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe and figure out who is out to get them.
Originally, the show was being referred to as the untitled Tony & Ziva NCIS spin-off, and had some potential names like NCIS: Europe and NCIS: Trust No One, but Weatherly and de Pablo announced the show's official name on Instagram in early May.
Paramount+ has released a list of actors along with their character names and descriptions. Although some roles in the series will be for some, aka Tali is Tony and Ziva's daughter, it's not as apparent how others will play into the season and be connected to the characters we know.
With NCIS: Hawai'i cancelled in 2024, there are officially three other NCIS properties outside of the original: NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Of those three, NCIS: Sydney doesn't have much connection to the main NCIS; it takes place on another continent, with a cast completely unrelated to the characters we know. And though the shows might end up crossing over at some point in the future, there's nothing that ties it to the show's main DC offices. The other two, however, are a very different story.
NCIS: Origins is a direct prequel to NCIS that traces the origins of the show's most iconic character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs — played by Mark Harmon for 19 seasons. The show is set in 1991, shortly after the deaths of Gibbs' first wife Shannon and daughter Kelly, and follows Gibbs as a new agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office. NCIS: Tony & Ziva, meanwhile, brings back two fan-favorite characters from NCIS, Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, alongside their daughter Tali, and finds them on the run in Europe for reasons yet undisclosed. Tony and Ziva met and fell in love in NCIS and after Ziva's supposed death and Tony learning that the two had a daughter, they reunited and have been raising their daughter Tali together. -Lizzie Lanuza
NCIS does have its fair share of spin-offs, both concluded and ongoing, so the best place to start is probably there, but if you're looking for some NCIS-like action that doesn't include those four letters, check out our list of shows like NCIS, which includes some other military dramas and thrillers.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva will be available to stream on Paramount+ for those with a subscription.
